Newspapers and the future.

So today, I am reading tons about how new larger format electronic reader are coming and how they could save the newspaper industry, etc, etc, etc…..

I am not going  on about that so much for the tech at least.  But here is my take on how a newspaper could become more valuable to me.

Quality reports about local news.

It is that simple.  Now I know housing quality writers, editors and reports cost money.  I am all for paying for a service that would bring me this, even in an electronic format.  I use my news/RSS readers to pull national and world stories and heck I use it to pull in statewide stories from LSJ.  But what I don’t have is any quality stories that are from my town, county or other near area news.  So much seems to be just word of mouth now.  Now I am all for word of mouth and heck, I do like to gossip from time to time.  But I want something that is a tad more formal.  I want, no need, to know what is going on in city consel meetings or county planning meetings.  I like to know what is going on for crime and similar in my area.  This is what is already gone in electronic news.  This is what I would pay for from a local newspaper firm now.  I would drop like 10 bucks a month for this service.  It is worth it to me.
